Teaching ICT in ANHS
By Felishiela M. Toledo
Teacher, Agusan National High School

Teaching ICT in Agusan National High School (ANHS) has made a huge impact in my life. I may not be an ICT degree holder, but I can say that I’ve developed my skills and learned a lot throughout the years I’ve been teaching this subject.

As a Home Economics teacher, I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to teach ICT subjects to Science and Technology Oriented High School (STOHS) students. But for the past three years, I can say that I have succeeded in motivating my students to be more inclined to ICT.

My achievements as an ICT teacher are not just a one-man success. In my ICT classes, my students and I are all learners. I’m proud of my students because of their eagerness in learning and developing new skills. In the process, we all learn from each other.

When my class encounters hardware problems, Davey Jun Nuñez, a former student , can immediately do the troubleshooting. When the school needs to enhance photos, we can always tap Idriss Ocampo, our Adobe Photoshop student expert. For Flash animations, Jose Carlo Mendoza is the king of Java Scripts.

When we needed a clear and detailed copy of the ANHS Vicinity Map for the STEP-RSDC competition held last October 28-30, student Angel Pitogo Jr., also showed his skills in Adobe Photoshop by coming up with an excellent ANHS vicinity map.

Our school website is also a collaboration of brilliant ANHS teachers and students. Another student, Alan Cabalit, is the one who initiated the forum facility in our school website. For fast editing and encoding, our web team can always rely on Dean Beau Lozarie, an excellent and superb writer as well.

Our school website’s layout design was the product of Lawrence Wilmer P. Anatalio’s ingenuity. Lawrence is one of my former students in ICT. He is also the school’s representative for the 7th STEP-NSDC where he won 5th place for Homepage Development.

Lawrence, together with the school web team, was able to come up with an excellent design for the ANHS website, which recently won the Smart Schools Program’s Website of the Month. The school website also won the Community Choice Award for the month of October.

The students I mentioned are just a few of my bright students in ICT. They all showed strong interest in the fields of ICT and have shown outstanding competency in ICT at such a very young age. They are now in their junior year under the STOHS curriculum and I believe that this is just the start of their promising future in ICT.

To all my students, many thanks for making my experience as an ICT teacher meaningful and fruitful. My life in ICT truly shines with you. Good luck and more power!
