Empowerment through ICT
By Katrina Canillo

ICT: Information, Communication, Technology. Three powerful words that bring endless possibilities. Information and communications technology empowers people and opens the doors to limitless opportunities.

In our school, ICT serves as an effective tool for teaching and learning. Let me share with you what I think about using ICT in our classes.

I is for interesting. ICT makes our subjects more exciting and appealing, boosting our knowledge and performance in class.

C is for challenging. Students are challenged to be more creative in presenting their ideas. We use the information and resources we get from the Internet in making impressive projects. Teachers are also challenged to break away from the traditional chalk-and-blackboard setup and use other gadgets like interactive smart boards and even game consoles.

T is for totality.  Because ICT encompasses the broad fields of information and communication, a student who learns through ICT is like studying various languages and adapting to different cultures, thereby gaining total self-development.  I believe that the best weapon that the youth can arm themselves with is quality education aided by ICT.

Improving our lives
By Clenth Florentino

Truly, the Internet has improved our way of life and the quality of our education. Now, students no longer have to borrow notes from neighbors or stay all day in the library. They just have to connect to the Internet and click away.

The Internet also makes education in distant places possible. Through online education, learners are able to interact with their teachers using web-based communication technologies.

Our teachers are also able to create more effective lesson plans by using audiovisual tools available in the Internet. Computer-aided instruction (CAI) enriches the teaching and learning process. CAI applications include computer-facilitated communication between students and teachers, and computer visualization of complex concepts such as in Mathematics.

In our school, information and communications technology (ICT) is being integrated in the Science and Technology Classes (STC) curriculum. The Internet has opened our minds to the ever-changing and developing world and helps us reach our dreams.
