ACeS in the Philippines
ACeS, through its partnership with PLDT and SMART Communications, Inc., has provided Filipinos affordable satellite services through SMART Link.

SMART Link traces its beginnings to the first ACeS-based Public Calling Office (PCO) in 2001 under the brand SMART Tawag Center. Through the Tawag Centers, rural telephony is actualized as it makes possible domestic and international voice services in remote areas currently underserved and unserved by telecommunication facilities. It also provides an alternative to costly infrastructures required in installing communication lines and equipment in an area which has no telecommunication facilities due to geographical constraints.
In the late 2001 the fixed satellite terminals was introduced and SMART Link Philipppines was born. Unlike the SMART Tawag Centers, SMART Link specifically targeted individuals, families and businesses located in far-flung areas of the Philippines.
In 2003, SMART Link continued to innovate and develop variants of the service. It re-established the SMART Tawag Center PCOs to provide means for residents to make and receive calls. For the corporate market, SMART Link Corporate was developed to provide the needs of companies with offices located in areas without landline or cellular coverage. It also continued to develop mass-based programs such as the Free Sim Program wherein residents were encouraged to use their individual sim cards on one shared unit by the community and to support this developed sim-based SMART Link Payphones for public use.
In 2004, SMART Link has expanded beyond the Philippines and has provided communication services to Overseas Filipino Workers and Seafarers to enjoy the benefits of affordable and readily accessible means of calling anywhere within the coverage, across land and over seas. The affordable rates and wide coverage gives them the confidence to stay connected with their loved ones thereby improving their standard of living and work productivity.
Furthermore, SMART Link has offered ACeS services to other Asian countries under the brand name SMART Link International. It developed International distributors to market its products and services in countries such as Singapore, China and Nepal among others. It also established Regional Service Providers (RSP) by partnering with existing telcos and local companies in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Palau to offer the service under their own existing brands through a wholesale arrangement.
