PLDT- Smart Foundation donates P25M for UP Centennial

[May 20, 2008/ Manila] - Smart Chief Wireless Adviser Orlando B. Vea receives a token of appreciation from University of the Philippines (UP) officials led by Presidential Commission for the UP Centennial Chairman and former UP President Sen. Edgardo Angara (third from right) and UP President Emerlinda Roman (fourth from left) during the UP Centennial Donors’ Night. 

The PLDT-Smart Foundation is donating P25 million to the UP Centennial Faculty Development Fund as the country’s premier institution celebrates 100 years of excellence this year.  Through the Centennial Faculty Development Fund, UP hopes to establish professorial chairs, faculty grants, academic conference grants and other incentives to supplement the salaries of faculty members.

The celebration of the UP Centennial officially began on July 18, 2007 and will last through December 31, 2008, with the whole of 2008 having been declared the UP Centennial Year by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through Proclamation No. 913. @
