Landbank, Smart launch OFW cash card
[January 28, 2008/ Manila] - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo highlights her meeting with leaders of the Filipino community in Dubai with the launch of the Landbank OFW Cash Card, which is powered by Smart Money.
Photo shows President Arroyo, assisted by Landbank President and CEO Gilda Pico, turning over a Landbank OFW Cash Card to Filipino worker Roberto Galut. Galut, who works as a waiter in Dubai, demonstrated the speed, convenience and affordability of the Landbank OFW Cash Card by transferring funds to his sister in Manila using his mobile phone.
Landbank collaborated with Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) to develop the mobile remittance service in response to President Arroyo’s Administrative Order 215 which directs Landbank to fast-track cheaper remittance services for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
The Landbank OFW Cash Card will enable Filipino workers, especially those based in the Middle East, to send remittances to their beneficiaries in the Philippines via SIM-based services anytime, anywhere at the speed of a text message and for as low as P5 in bank charges.
A roaming charge of P20 and a value-added service (VAS) fee of P2.50 are charged against the sender’s airtime load per fund transfer.@
