Smart Mentors Undergo Intensive Training
[May 8, 2007/ Manila] - Fr. Jomar Legaspi, president of Learn.ph Foundation, closely monitors and assists the teacher-scholars of the Smart Mentors Program during the recently concluded 10-day intensive training conducted at De La Salle Lipa in Batangas.
Envisioned to develop teachers of the “NET” generation, the Smart Mentors program is part of the training component of the Smart Schools Program (SSP), a community-service project of Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) in aid of secondary education that also provides Internet access and online content to selected public high schools nationwide.
Twenty-five teacher-scholars, representing partner schools nationwide are to complete a specialized 11-month action research course for a Master of Arts Degree in Instructional Design and Technology. The course is designed to equip teachers with knowledge and skills to integrate information and communications technology in basic teaching methods.
During the course, each teacher-scholar will begin mentoring 15 teachers within and outside his school and division. Because of its mentoring component, Smart Mentors will benefit even more teachers, especially those who have yet to use ICT in the classroom.
Upon completion of the course, the 25 teacher-scholars will form the first batch of mentors actively participating in training and in developing and implementing new Smart Schools Program initiatives. @
